Suffolk County Police Third Squad Detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed two people and injured five others in Brentwood this afternoon.
Olvin Jimenez was driving a 1997 Toyota Corolla southbound on Crooked Hill Road when he lost control of the vehicle and crossed into the northbound lane, where the vehicle was struck by a 2005 Toyota RAV4 at approximately 1:38 p.m.
Both the driver of the Corolla, Olvin Jimenez, 39, and front seat passenger Erica Jimenez-Mejia, 39, of 224 Sherman Avenue in Brentwood, were pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
Two children, ages two and ten, who were passengers in the back seat of the Corolla, were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of serious injuries.
The driver of the RAV4, Allissiana Rose Licata, 21, and passengers Nicholas Licata, 17, and Emmanuel Licata, 73, of Bay Shore were transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
Smith Point County Park, Shirley,NY: Saturday July 29, 2018 at approximately 8:05p.m.
Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was pulled from the Atlantic Ocean in Shirley last night.
Juan Martinez was swimming at Smith Point County Park when he became distressed and went under water at approximately 8:05 p.m. Martinez, 53, of Manorville, was removed from the water by Suffolk County Police officers and transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead.
Personnel from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner will determine Martinez’s cause of death.
West Babylon,NY: Sunday, July 22, 2018 at approximately 5:50 a.m.
Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section detectives are investigating a fatal fire that occurred at a West Babylon home this morning.
First Precinct officers responded to 68 15th St. at approximately 5:50 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a fire at the location. Four residents, two men, one woman and her 8-year-old son, were in the home at the time of the fire.
James Vella, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other adult male resident was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries and smoke inhalation. A First Precinct police officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. The woman and her son were not injured.
Following a preliminary investigation, detectives believe the fire to be non-criminal in nature.
