Ford Explorer SUV
11-13-2019 | 3:45 PM |FORT MIL,SC — South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating an accident that claimed that life of a teenager Wednesday afternoon. The accident happened around 3:45 p.m., on SC-160 near Bailes Ridge Avenue in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
Construction crews in the area were working on a road widening project near where the fatal accident occured. State Troopers say a 16 year old boy was hit by a white Ford Explorer near the Enclave at Bailes Ridge Apartments.
SC Highway Patrol confirmed a 60 year old Fort Mill man was driving a Ford Explorer when it went off the road striking the teenager. Officials say the 16 Year old was walking on the shoulder of SC-160 when the crash happened.
Due to the victims serious injuries an Atrium Health MedCenterAir helicopter was launched. Firefighters from Pleasant Valley Fire Department & Indian Land Fire Department established a landing zone near Lowes Home Improvement.
Due to the severe nature of the victims injuries, it was decided to transport the victim by ambulance rather then airlift him out. A Lancaster County EMS Ambulance and MedCenterAir Pramedic transported the teen to an area hospital.
Highway Patrol and Lancaster County Sheriff Office closed SC-160 while they investigated the accident. The driver reportedly stayed on scene.
The vicitms name is not being released at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
