11-13-2019 | 3:45 PM |FORT MIL,SC — South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating an accident that claimed that life of a teenager Wednesday afternoon. The accident happened around 3:45 p.m., on SC-160 near Bailes Ridge Avenue in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
Construction crews in the area were working on a road widening project near where the fatal accident occured. State Troopers say a 16 year old boy was hit by a white Ford Explorer near the Enclave at Bailes Ridge Apartments.
SC Highway Patrol confirmed a 60 year old Fort Mill man was driving a Ford Explorer when it went off the road striking the teenager. Officials say the 16 Year old was walking on the shoulder of SC-160 when the crash happened.
Due to the victims serious injuries an Atrium Health MedCenterAir helicopter was launched. Firefighters from Pleasant Valley Fire Department & Indian Land Fire Department established a landing zone near Lowes Home Improvement.
Due to the severe nature of the victims injuries, it was decided to transport the victim by ambulance rather then airlift him out. A Lancaster County EMS Ambulance and MedCenterAir Pramedic transported the teen to an area hospital.
Highway Patrol and Lancaster County Sheriff Office closed SC-160 while they investigated the accident. The driver reportedly stayed on scene.
The vicitms name is not being released at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
09-03-2019 | 5:30 PM | CATAWBA,SC— On Tuesday September 3, 2019 a two-car crash claimed the lives of two people in Catawba, South Carolina. The crash was reported shortly after 5:00pm on SC-5 (Highway 5) just south of Cureton Ferry Road. South Carolina State Highway Patrol Troopers said the Ford pickup truck was traveling west on Highway 5 when it crossed the center line and hit the Ford van and a Jeep SUV that were traveling east on Highway 5. The York County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Lashawn Daniels, of Waxhaw, North Carolina died when his van collided with a pickup truck driven by Jackie Moss Jr., of Kings Mountain, North Carolina.
The driver of the SUV was airlifted to a hospital, and a passenger was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The van Daniels was driving was barley recognizable after the van burst into flames following the accident.
Lashawn Daniels was well known for penning songs for artists such as Beyoncé, Whitney Houston, Jennifer Lopez and Michael Jackson according to Daniels publicist JoJo Pada. Daniels wife, April expressed her sadness in a statement after her husbands sudden passing. ” It is with deep sorrow and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, family member and friend, Lashawn Daniels who was the victim of a fatal car accident in South Carolina,” A Grammy-award winning producer and songwriter, Daniels was a man of extraordinary faith and a pillar in our family.”
Daniels was a native of New Jersey known by many as Big Shiz. He is known for writing songs such as You Rock My World” by Michael Jackson, “It’s Not Right (But It’s Okay)” by Whitney Houston, and “Telephone” by Beyoncé featuring Lady Gaga. Recently he wrote a song by the now-iconic Monica and Brandy duet, “The Boy Is Mine.”
08-22-2019 | 6:30 PM | LANCASTER,SC — On Thursday August 22, 2019 at approximately 6:30 p.m., multiple emergency responders from multiple agencies responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a UPS Truck in Lancaster South Carolina. The crash happened in the northbound lanes of Charlotte Highway (State Highway 521) just north of Nursery Road.
Firefighters from Lancaster County Fire Rescue & Shiloh Zion FD – Lancaster Station 17 Volunteer Fire Department arrived be discover a single UPS truck that sustained significant front end damage following the crash. The driver was trapped within the vehicle. Additional resources including a heavy rescue truck from Lancaster County Fire Rescue was requested.
Firefighters reportedly extricated the driver from the vehicle when they arrived on scene. A request for a medical helicopter was sent to two different agencies but, was both choppers were unable to fly to to bad weather. Northbound traffic was brought to a standstill so firefighters and EMS workers could safely operate at the scene. The sole UPS driver was transported by Lancaster County EMS to Atrium CMC Trauma Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. The extent of the injuries are unknown. A fellow UPS worker at the scene said the driver had reportedly suffered a head injury but was conscious when firefighters arrived. Part of the front of the truck cab was smashed inward.
South Carolina State Highway Patrol reopened northbound lanes about a hour after the accident.
06-02-2019 | 7:45 PM | ROCK HILL,SC — The South Carolina Department of Public Safety reports that a trooper and suspect have been injured in an officer-involved shooting that occurred in York County on June 2, 2019.
The incident began near Mt. Gallant Road and Lexie Lane near Rock Hill around 7:45 p.m. Trooper Paul Wise attempted to stop the driver of a 2009 BMW for no safety belt. The suspect fled and the trooper began a short pursuit.
The suspect traveled south on Mt. Gallant Road, turning onto India Hook Road where he struck the gate at Camp Canaan Campground.
The suspect exited the vehicle and began firing at the trooper’s vehicle. The trooper returned fire, striking the suspect. Both were struck by the exchange of gunfire and were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Trooper Wise is assigned to Highway Patrol Troop Four, York County, and has been with the SC Highway Patrol since September 2016. He was transported to Piedmont Medical Center and is alert and in good condition.
The suspect Willie Bernard Wright, 27, of Gaffney, SC, was transported to Piedmont Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting is under investigation by the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
