Bellport,NY: Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at approximately 5:40 p.m.

Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist in Bellport today.

Tyler Joseph LeBron was riding a 2004 Suzuki eastbound on Montauk Highway when he lost control of his motorcycle, crossed over the highway and struck a utility pole at approximately 5:40 p.m.

LeBron, 23, of Mastic, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Suffolk County Police arrested three volunteer firefighters for setting fires in Central Islip and Hauppauge during a four-month span.

Following an investigation by Arson Section detectives, with the assistance of the Central Islip Fire Department, Austin Lehman, Stephen Hernandez and Shawn Key were arrested in connection with fires intentionally set at abandoned houses between October and January. All three are members of the Central Islip Fire Department. No one was injured in any of the fires.

The three were charged in connection with fires at:

  • 82 Gates Ave. in Central Islip on October 21 at approximately 6 a.m.
  • 104 Vanderbilt Ave. in Central Islip on October 24 at approximately 5:20 a.m.
  • 173 Gibbs Road in Central Islip on November 7 at approximately 5:50 a.m.
  • 43 Oakdale Ave. in Central Islip on November 22 at approximately 2:20 a.m.
  • 475 Bridge Road in Hauppauge on January 14 at approximately 3:40 a.m.

Hernandez, 25, of 62A Ridgewood Ave., Central Islip, and Lehman, 19, of 74 Vanderbilt Ave., Central Islip, were charged with five counts of Arson 3rd Degree for their involvement in all five fires. Key, 27, of 10 Chuck Blvd., North Babylon, was charged with Arson 3rd Degree for the fire on November 22.

The three were scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 13.

 

 

West Babylon,NY: Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at approximately 11:45 a.m.

Suffolk County Police arrested a man after he stole a vehicle and crashed into a police car, seriously injuring an officer in West Babylon, NY, this morning.

Louis Mancini Jr. stole a 2013 GMC Yukon from Frank’s Delicatessen, located at 1018 Little East Neck Road, West Babylon, NY, at approximately 11:15 a.m.

Approximately thirty minutes later, Mancini Jr. was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Straight Path in West Babylon, NY, when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed head on into a police car traveling southbound on Straight Path.

The officer had to be extricated from the vehicle and transported by the North Babylon Fire Department to Nassau University Medical Center. He suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Mancini Jr. was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, NY, with non-life-threatening injuries.

Major Case Unit detectives charged Mancini Jr., 30, of West Babylon, NY, with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, and Grand Larceny 3rd Degree.

Mancini Jr. was at First District Court in Central Islip, NY, on March 14, 2018.

MOUNT SINAI, NY : Friday, January 19, 2018, at approximately 11:30 p.m.

Suffolk County Police arrested a woman for driving while intoxicated after a motor vehicle crash that injured a police officer and the female driver in Mount Sinai last night.

Elvia Turcios was driving a 2003 Nissan Altima westbound on Route 25A, near Mt. Sinai Ave. at approximately 11:30 p.m. when her vehicle struck an occupied Suffolk County Police Department patrol car parked on the shoulder of the road with the emergency lights on during a traffic stop. The Altima then struck a 2004 Jeep Cherokee traveling eastbound, and the Altima overturned.  The vehicle originally pulled over in the traffic stop was not involved in the crash.

The Sixth Precinct officer in the vehicle and Turcios were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Turcios, 30, of Port Jefferson, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle and issued additional summonses. She was held at the Sixth Precinct and

arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on January 20.
